MR. HOLMES BAKEHOUSE- PASTRY HEAVEN IN SEOUL
I've said it before and I will say it again. I LURVE cruffins! That crispy flaky outside and chewy croissant inside, it just doesn't get much better than that. With my trips to The Cupping Room in Hong Kong occurring on a regular basis all in the name of checking out the feature cruffin, you can imagine I tend to scope out any and all other cruffin/pastry locations whenever I travel. That being said, any avid cruffin lovers (and Instagram addicts) will at one point or another stumbled upon the gorgeous cruffins and pastries pumped out by Mr Holmes bakehouse (located in San Francisco). With mouth watering flavors and super funky neon lights asking to be photographed, let's just say, Mr Holmes Bakehouse has food porn stamped all over it. Now being situated in Hong Kong, you can imagine my extremely strong desire to hop across the pond for a morning coffee accompanied by a perfect cruffin.... unfortunately it was a little out of the question...Now to my delight, whilst planning my trip to Seoul, I was #PUMPED to discover that Mr. Holmes Bakehouse had opened their one and only international location in the heart of Gangnam, Seoul. Naturally I had to check it out and see what all the hype was about!
With a funky interior and a pastry cabinet that will make your jaw drop and your mouth salivate, I HAD to come not once but twice on my four day trip to Seoul (sorry not sorry). With the feature donut and cruffin flavors changing on the daily I mean come on, how could we not return again and again... I was just doing my foodblogger "duties" ;) #marketresearch .
First up the CRUFFINS!
Pineapple Banana Cruffin
With their cruffins achieving SERIOUS insta fame, how could I resist? Piped down the middle with a sweet pineapple banana cream this cruffin was hella tasty! Crispy and flaky on the outside and so chewy on the inside. DEFINITELY worth the hype.
Sweet Potato Cruffin
I'll admit, I had my hesitations about this bad boy. Sometimes I like sweet potato desserts and sometimes I find them a bit too strong and the texture a little too similar to mashed potatoes (if you know what I mean). This guy was actually REALLY nice. With a delicate sweet potato flavour blended perfectly smooth with the cream piping there was no denying its deliciousness.
OH MY WORD. You guys, seriously. This was out of this world. SO moist and dense packed with chunks of strawberries and topped with a perfectly sweet glaze this guy was definitely one of my favs!
Ube Puff with Prickly Pear Glaze
How could I resist this giant 'Pop Tart looking' treat? This puff pastry was stuffed with a sweet ube (purple yam) filling and topped with a pear glaze! This bad boy was tasty but I thought the filling needed a bit more flavour.
Chocolate Chip Cookie
"One of the best cookies I've had this year"- Ella Watson. So yeah....
Vanilla Cream Brioche Donut
Super fluffy this brioche donut was tasty chewy and delicious. The only thing I would say about it is that it had a bit too much cream in the middle. I found it a bit too sweet, but nonetheless tasty!
Like what't not to like? Just look at those handsome devils...
So dieters, if you are making your way over to Seoul (locations also in San Francisco and LA) you are NOT going to want to miss out on these sweet treats!
